• Retiring Director and General Manager of UNC-TV Tom Howe has been inducted into The Order of the Longleaf Pine. Howe received his certificate at retirement ceremonies Jan. 30 from University of North Carolina President Tom Ross and the host of the UNC-TV program Exploring North Carolina, Tom Earnhardt. The honor is bestowed by the Office of the Governor to recognize individuals who have made a significant impact towards creating a better North Carolina.

• Chapel Hill resident John Pate has earned the Eagle rank from the Boy Scouts of America. As a member of Troop 835, John led a team to construct pathways and make improvements to the theatre loading dock at East Chapel Hill High School as his Eagle service project. Pate has also earned the High Adventure Triple Crown, having worked on projects at each of the BSA’s high adventure facilities in Minnesota, Florida, and New Mexico.

• Chapel Hill resident Alex Hansen, from Boy Scout Troop 420, recently received his Eagle Scout award. Hansen attends Chapel Hill High School.
