Scenes: Sunday at the museum

Raleigh News & ObserverFebruary 18, 2014

Fred Burns, a film animator and teacher from Taos, N.M., sketches Bhrikuti, female companion of the White Avalokiteshvara, Lord of Compassion, a 14th century statue by an unknown sculptor, at the Ackland Art Museum on Sunday.

“I love the rhythmic quality,” Burns says. “She’s taking a step and also being static at the same time. It has that off-balance feeling that’s also very calm. It’s just beautiful.”
