Duel at the DBAP is cancelled by UNC, N.C. State

After being postponed due to heavy rain on April 15, the Duel at the DBAP between UNC and N.C. State has been canceled. The cancellation comes after both schools, in conjunction with the Durham Bulls, could not find a workable makeup date.

Tickets for the Duel at the DBAP can be exchanged for any 2014 regular season Durham Bulls game or USA Baseball game at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

“Obviously, we are disappointed that we weren’t able to find a way to reschedule,” head Coach Mike Fox said.

“Playing at Durham Bulls Athletic Park, especially during last year’s ACC Championship run, has been an incredible experience for our players and a lot of fun for our program. Unfortunately for our players, coaches and fans, the weather didn’t cooperate, but we appreciate the efforts of everyone involved in putting this game together.”

To exchange tickets, fans should visit the Durham Bulls Athletic Park box office or call 919-956-2866. The box office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m, with extended evening hours on Bulls game days. Additionally, the box office opens at 9 a.m. on Saturdays and noon on Sundays when the Bulls are home.

Top seeds advance in Chapel Hill Rec basketball

The semifinals of the Chapel Hill Rec League basketball tournament are scheduled for this afternoon at Rashkis Gym, with No. 1 seeded Old School (12-1) playing the fifth-seeded Defenders (8-4) at 1 p.m. and No. 2 Uncle Drew (11-2) facing No. 3 Contactology (11-2) at 2 p.m.

Old School reached the semis after eliminating Tru Grit 59-48 in the quarterfinals, while the Defenders dismissed the Fall 2013 champions, Heat Check, with a 57-48 decision. Contactology blew out Lockdown 64-40 in the quarterfinals, and Uncle Drew advanced with a 66-46 win against Blue Steal.

The Rec League championship is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rashkis Gym.

High school sports hit hard by more rain Friday

Heavy rain on Friday afternoon also forced cancellation of several local high school events, including the soccer game between East Chapel Hill and Chapel Hill.

No word yet on any rescheduling. With most spring sports heading into the home stretch of their seasons, squeezing in dates for non-conference events will be difficult.
