The Chapel Hill News, Chapel Hill and Carrboro’s hometown newspaper, has been published continuously in southern Orange County since 1923. The Chapel Hill News is owned by The News & Observer, which also owns The Cary News, The Smithfield Herald, and The Eastern Wake News.
The newspaper is published twice weekly, on Sundays and Wednesdays. It is distributed free to 24,500 households in southern Orange County. It is also available in racks and at newsstands for 50 cents a copy, and mail subscriptions are available. The newspaper also is available online at www.chapelhillnews.com.
The Chapel Hill News provides local news coverage and features that showcase the distinctiveness of the area's history, people, places and activities. It also serves as a platform for local voices through a large number of locally written columns and through a lively exchange of opinion in letters and columns on the editorial pages. The Sports pages provide focused coverage of local prep and recreational sports. The Weekend pages offers features on events, people, arts and culture, as well as coverage of other features on health and family issues, and the pets. The Chapel Hill News has been recognized by the North Carolina Press Association for its outstanding news coverage. The classified section, called Advocate Classifieds, is distributed in the Chapel Hill News.
