DEMOCRATIC WOMEN -- The Orange County Democratic Women will hold its monthly meeting on July 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Chapel Hill Museum, 523 E. Franklin St. Guest Meg Gray Weihe, policy analyst with the N.C. Justice Center's Budget & Tax Center, will speak on "Why Tax Fairness Matters." 929-0547.

AUTHOR EVENT -- Author Amanda Lamb will read from "Deadly Dose: The Untold Story of a Homicide Investigator's Crusade For Truth and Justice," on July 25 at 2 p.m. at McIntyre's Fine Books in Fearrington Village. Also present will be homicide investigator Chris Morgan and forensic psychologist Dr. Michael Teague. 542-3030.

FILM SERIES -- The American Summer Film Series presents "Feed" and "Founding Fathers" on July 26 at 7 p.m. at the Carrboro Century Center, 100 N. Greensboro St.

CULINARY AUTHORS -- Editors Dale Volberg Reed and John Shelton Reed will present "Cornbread Nation IV: The Best of Southern Food Writing," along with contributors Marcie Ferris and Michael McFee, July 26 at 11 a.m. at McIntyre's Fine Books in Fearrington Village. 542-3030.

AUTHOR EVENT -- Author Tana French, winner of the Edgar Award for Best First Novel by an American Author, will read from her new novel, "The Likeness," on July 28 at 7 p.m. at McIntyre's Fine Books in Fearrington Village. 542-3030.
