Drama, songs to mark ministries' anniversary

The First Baptist Church Ushers and First Aid Ministries will celebrate their anniversary on Sunday at 5 p.m. The event will include liturgical dance, drama and songs of praise.

The celebration also will recognize past presidents of the ushers and first aid ministries. Everyone is welcome.

Talk focuses on Russian orphans

Daniel Clark from Children's HopeChest will speak Sunday at 5:30 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Southern Village.

Children's HopeChest and Christ United Methodist Church are partnering to sponsor children at a Russian orphanage. The community is encouraged to be a part of this ministry. The program's goal is to offer long-term holistic redemptive care for orphans.

A question and answer session, and appetizers and desserts, will follow Clark's talk.

Life of King will be celebration focus

The Triangle Congregation for Humanistic Judaism will hold a celebration of the life and values of Martin Luther King Jr. Friday at 8 p.m. in the double classroom of Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 4907 Garrett Road, Durham.

Buddhist center offers teaching, meditation

= The Kosala Buddhist Center in Carrboro offers Buddhist teachings, discussion and meditation with resident teacher Gen Tilopa from 7 to 8:30 p.m. every Wednesday.

The April series will focus on the subject "Dealing With Anger."

Services, events at Binkley Baptist

Binkley Baptist Church, 1712 Willow Drive, holds regular worship services each Sunday at 11 a.m.

Church school precedes the worship, starting at 9:30 a.m. The Contemplative Prayer Group meets each Monday morning in the chapel at 9:15 a.m.

The choirs meet as follows: Chancel Choir, today at 7:30 p.m.; Younger Children, Sunday at 12:45 p.m.; Older Children, Sunday at 1:45 p.m.; Youth, Sunday at 5 p.m. Youth Group meets Sunday at 6 p.m.

Discussion series looks at climate change

A session in the discussion series on "Consumption, Climate Change and Environmental Justice" at United Church of Chapel Hill, 1321 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulebard, will be Sunday at 10 a.m.

The series will address UCC's history of environmental justice activism, the impact of consumption and disposal practices on environmental health in developing economies and the disproportionate impact of climate change on the world's most vulnerable citizens.

Sunday worship services at United Church of Chapel Hill are held at 8:45 and 11 a.m.

The Chancel Choir will sing at both services. Church School for all ages is at 10 a.m.

Iglesia Unida, the church's Spanish language worship, will be held at 11 a.m. in the new Assembly Hall.

The Board of Children's Ministry will host a teacher appreciation brunch Sunday at 11 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall to thank this year's church school teachers.

Gladys Rodriguez will have empaneas for sale after the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday.

Sermon Shaping meetings are held every Wednesday at 7 a.m. in the library. One of the pastors leads a look at the lectionary texts for the next Sunday.

Advent Lutheran holds services, classes

Advent Lutheran Church, 230 Erwin Road in Chapel Hill, holds Sunday service beginning at 10:25 a.m. and Bible classes for adults and children of all ages beginning at 9:05 a.m. All are welcome.

Sunday services at Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church, 304 E. Franklin St., will include Holy Eucharist at 7:30, 9 and 11:15 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. A service of Sung Compline will be held at 9:30 p.m. in the church.

A service of Holy Eucharist will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at Carol Woods Retirement Community.

The weekly Tuesday morning Bible study will meet Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. in the parish library. This self-led study welcomes newcomers.

The Centering Prayer Group will meet today at 5 p.m. in the parish house.

A social hour begins at 12:20 p.m. each Sunday, following the conclusion of the 11:15 a.m. service.

Series studies meaning of Methodism

The Rev. Verson Tyson leads a series called "What Does It Mean to Be a Methodist Christian in 2008" on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. at Amity United Methodist Church, 825 Estes Drive. The series will continue through April 29.

Sunday worship service is at 11 a.m. with a special Children's Time during the service. Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m.

The Youth group meets Sundays at 5 p.m. and has Bible study on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. at Starbucks on Franklin Street. This week the group will discuss "Discipleship Study Through the Eyes of Luke."

Sunday services at the Unity Center of Peace Church, 8800 Seawell School Road, are from 11 a.m. to noon. The Adult Forum precedes the service each Sunday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

A healing circle meets weekly on Mondays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
