The Triangle Jewish Chorale is seeking singers. The chorale performs vocal works in concert, for special occasions and in celebration of community events, under the leadership of Jane Peppler.
Membership is open to all who can sing in tune and listen to others at the same time; who want to sing and perform Jewish music in English, Hebrew, Yiddish; who are willing to put in the time to learn their parts; and who are able and willing to attend rehearsals regularly.
Downloadable mp3 files of the parts are provided and fellow chorale members are available to help in the learning process.
Regular rehearsals take place twice per month, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Judaea Reform Congregation in Durham.
Members do not have to be able to sight read, but rudimentary knowledge of musical notation is required. Members do not need to be Jewish or be affiliated with any Jewish organization. An audition is required.
The first rehearsal for the fall season is scheduled for Sept. 2.

Kehillah wins workplace award
The NC American Psychological Association has awarded the Chapel Hill Kehillah Synagogue the Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award.
The award recognizes agencies that "make a commitment to programs and policies that foster employee health and well-being while enhancing organizational performance and productivity." The NCAPA evaluates organizations on employee involvement, work-life balance, employee growth and development, health and safety, and employee recognition.
The Kehillah Synagogue was the winner of the overall NC Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award for a small non-profit and was the only religious institution chosen for the award. Its application is being sent on to compete at the national level of the American Psychological Association.
Straley Series continues Sunday
The 2008 Straley Series continues Sunday at The Community Church at Chapel Hill, Unitarian Universalist, 106 Purefoy Road.
The Straley Series is an annual series of social justice programs named for long-time community activists and church founders Joe and Lucy Straley.
On Sunday members of the church's Environmental Action Task Force will talk about their vision, the 100 Ton Challenge and other steps they have already undertaken, and what others can do to address global warming and the challenge of saving the planet.
The series continues will the following events:
- July 27, Orange County Organizing Committee. Several members will discuss this new multi-faith community coalition.
- Aug. 3, The South in Black and White. Members will discuss local author and historian Tim Tyson's course, "The South in Black and White: Southern History, Culture, and Politics in the 20th Century."
- Aug. 10, Youth and Witness for Peace in Nicaragua. Church youth will discuss their experiences going to Nicaragua with Witness for Peace, a grassroots organization whose mission is "to support peace, justice and sustainable economies in the Americas by changing U.S. policies and corporate practices which contribute to poverty and oppression in Latin America and the Caribbean."
The Straley Series is open to the general public.
Each session begins at 11:45 a.m. with a light lunch, speakers, questions and answers, and wraps up by 1:30 pm. Childcare will be provided, and donations to help cover lunch costs are invited. Lystra program provides clothing
Lystra Baptist Church, 686 Lystra Road in Chatham County, has started an outreach ministry to help clothe those in need.
The Take and Wear Clothes Closet provides clothing free of charge to Chatham County residents in need. People who use the service must be referred by the Take and Eat food pantry at Evergreen Church, CORA, Social Services, local churches or other approved agencies.
The program relies solely on donations from individuals, churches and organizations. Donations are welcome.

Services of Holy Eucharist at the Chapel of the Cross, 304 E. Franklin St., will be held Sunday at 8 and 10 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. Children's chapel, a service for children aged 2-5, is held during the 10 a.m. service.
Brief services of Evening Prayer will be held in the chapel Monday and Tuesday at 5:15 p.m.
A special worship service for people with developmental disabilities will be held Monday at 7 p.m. Designed for those with developmental disabilities and their families and caretakers, this service is open to all who would like to participate in this informal style of worship.
