  • Nicole Danita Farrar of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Lenoir Rhyne College. To qualify for the dean's list, a student must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better, provided no grade was below a C and must carry at least 12 hours of letter-graded courses.

  • Brian Hertzberg of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list with distinction at Duke University for the fall semester. He is the son of Michael and Barbara Hertzberg and a 2004 graduate of Chapel Hill High School. To qualify for the list, a student must rank in the top tenth of the college for the semester.
  • Brika Eklund of Chapel Hill has received the Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship. She is the daughter of Suzanne Rucker and Cris Eklund and a graduate of Chapel Hill High School and Davidson College. The scholarship will fund three months of intensive language study and cultural immersion in Costa Rica.
  • Adam Edward Altrichter of Efland has been named to the dean's honor roll for the fall semester at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb. To qualify for the list a student must have a 3.5 grade-point average or better.
  • Thomas F. Hill of Pittsboro will serve as vice commander for Flotilla 98 of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary during the coming boating season. The auxiliary is made up of volunteers who carry out boating safety tasks, including safety patrols and search and rescue on lakes in central North Carolina.
  • Christopher Scott McLaughlin of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list with high honors for the fall semester at McDaniel College in Westminster, Md. To qualify for the list, a student must receive a 3.7 or higher grade-point average.
  • Roger B. Smith of Hillsborough will serve as operations officer for Flotilla 98 of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary during the coming boating season.
