- J. Stan Hutcheson of Chapel Hill will be the public education officer and supervise public classes in safe boating for the coming boating season for Flotilla 98 of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. The organization is made up of volunteers who carry out boating safety tasks, including safety patrols and search and rescue on lakes in central North Carolina.
- Nicholas Titus of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. To qualify for the list, a student must receive a 3.0 or higher grade-point average.
- Sarah Fenson Bronstein of Chapel Hill received a bachelor's degree in studio art from UNC-Wilmington during fall graduation ceremonies.
- Blake Smith, a 2002 graduate of East Chapel Hill High School, has joined University Parent Media in Boulder, Colo., as a marketing consultant.
- Matthew C. Boone of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Virginia Tech. To qualify for the list, a student must attempt at least 12 credit hours graded on the A-F option and receive a 3.4 grade-point-average during the semester.
- Kate Gregory of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn. She is the daughter of Dan and Jan Gregory. To qualify for the list, a student must take a course load of 12 hours and have a quality grade-point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C.
- Keith Eric Barnhardt of Chapel Hill received a bachelor's degree in philosophy and religion during fall graduation ceremonies at UNC-Wilmington.
- Young-Eun Hyun, a student at East Chapel Hill High School, won the first-place award for grades nine through 12 in the 2007 National French Essay Contest of the American Association of Teachers of French.
- The following Chapel Hill residents participated in the "Picture Yourself ... Making a Difference" leadership conference for high school women at Meredith College on Jan. 12: Stephanie Randall, daughter of Stephen and Aileen Randall and a student at Chapel Hill High; Amber Bivens, daughter of Debra Barksdale and a student at Chapel Hill High; Talia Horwitz, daughter of Debbie and Mitch Horwitz and a student at Carrboro High; Molly Miller, daughter of Vickie Mendes and Bob Miller and a student at Chapel Hill High; Jenna Osburn, daughter of Tania Osborn and a student at Chapel Hill High; Sarah Reedy, daughter of Brian and Suzanne Kalbas and a student at Chapel Hill High; and Anna Spruill, daughter of Beverly Spruill and a student at East Chapel Hill High.

- Kyle Freedman of Chapel Hill has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at UNC-Wilmington. He is the son of Carol Freedman and is a graduate of East Chapel Hill High School.
- John M. Hoffman of Carrboro was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Virginia Tech. To qualify for the list, a student must attempt at least 12 credit hours graded on the A-F option and receive a 3.4 grade-point-average during the semester.
- Army National Guard Pfc. Robert L. Pendergraft Jr. has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, Pendergraft studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading and field training exercises. Pendergraft earned distinction as an honor graduate. He is the son of Vivian Pendergraft of Hillsborough.
- Lauren Jane Sapikowski of Chapel Hill was named to the honor roll for the fall term at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va. To qualify for the honor roll, a student must have a term grade-point average of at least 3.75.
- Grace E. Martin of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Virginia Tech. To qualify for the list, a student must attempt at least 12 credit hours graded on the A-F option and receive a 3.4 grade-point-average during the semester.
- Lindsay M. Clendaniel of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Virginia Tech. To qualify for the list, a student must attempt at least 12 credit hours graded on the A-F option and receive a 3.4 grade-point-average during the semester.
- Charles B. Neas of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Virginia Tech. To qualify for the list, a student must attempt at least 12 credit hours graded on the A-F option and receive a 3.4 grade-point-average during the semester.
- Bowen Kelley of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list for the fall term at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Conn. He is the son of Thomas Kelley and Alexandra Lightfoot.
- Ashley Michiko Gorman of Chapel Hill received a bachelor's degree in business administration from UNC-Wilmington during fall graduation ceremonies.
- Brittany C. Snyder of Chapel Hill has been named to the merit list for the first semester of the 2007-08 academic year at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. She is the daughter of Christopher and Mary Fay Snyder and a graduate of Chapel Hill High School. To qualify for the list, a student must receive a grade-point average of at least 3.45.
