  • Katelyn "Katie" Bennett of Chapel Hill participated in the Governor's Page Program in Raleigh.

    She spent a week providing administrative support as a page for the North Carolina Department of Justice for the week of June 23-27.

    The Governor's Page Program provides students with an opportunity to gain knowledge of the roles and functions of state government. During the week, pages have a chance to attend press conferences, observe commission meetings and participate in a discussion with Gov. Mike Easley on current issues and events. Pages also assist in day-to-day office perations.

    She is the daughter of Eddie and Libby Bennett and is a senior at Chapel Hill High School.

    The one-week program is open to high school students between the ages of 15 and 18 who are in good academic standing at their schools.

  • Christopher Scott McLaughlin of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list with high honors for the spring 2008 semester at McDaniel College in Westminster, Md.

    To receive high honors a student must earn a semester grade point average of 3.70 to 3.89.

    McLaughlin is a biology major.

  • Mary Sink of Chapel Hill received a bachelor of arts degree from the College of Humanities and Natural Science during commencement exercises May 10 at Loyola University New Orleans.
  • Laura Nickles of Chapel Hill received a bachelor's degree in biology during commencement exercises held at Agnes Scott College in Atlanta.

    She is the daughter of Ann Nickles and Curtis Nickles of Chapel Hill. She graduated from Chapel Hill High School in 2004.

  • Julia McKinley of Chapel Hill was named to second honors on the dean's list at Clark University in Worcester, Mass., for the spring 2008 semester.

    She is a graduate of Chapel Hill High School and is a member of the class of 2010 at Clark University. She is studying ancient civilizations.

    To be eligible for second honors, a student must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

  • Brian H. Finley of Chapel Hill was named to second honors on the dean's list at Clark University in Worcester, Mass., for the spring 2008 semester.

    He is a graduate of East Chapel Hill High School and is a member of the class of 2009 at Clark University. He is studying economics.

    To be eligible for second honors, a student must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

  • Bojia Chen of Chapel Hill was awarded a Skill Point Certificate in Technical Computer Applications at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City, Mo.

    Industry leaders recognized students for their demonstrated excellence in 91 hands-on occupational and leadership contests.

    Chen is a student at Chapel Hill High School.

  • Alexander Denniston of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list for the spring 2008 semester at Northeastern University in Boston.

    Denniston is majoring in mechanical engineering.

    To qualify for the dean's list, a student must carry a full program of at least four courses, have a quality point average of 3.25 or higher and carry no single grade lower than a C during the course of his or her college career.

  • Tyler Denniston of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list for the spring 2008 semester at Northeastern University in Boston.

    Denniston is majoring in computer science.
