Army Pvt. Kenneth M. Howell has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. Ward, 46, was elected to his first three-year term, representing retailers as a director-at-large. Ward owns Ace Town and Country Hardware, a seven-store chain in Chapel Hill.
