He is the son of Stacy Ray and is a 2005 graduate of Chapel Hill High School.
  • Drew Raub of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Piedmont Community College where he is majoring in digital effects and animation technology. He also was selected as a student volunteer for the Siggraph International Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques, which took place in San Diego Aug. 5-9.
  • Matt Popkin has been accepted into the Peace Corps. He departed for the Philippines on May 8 to become an education volunteer. His focus will include strengthening and implementing English and information communication technology in the classroom. He is the son of Barry Popkin and Carol Council of Chapel Hill.
  • Kathryn Olga Robinson of Carrboro was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Western Carolina University. To qualify for the list a student must have at least a 3.5 grade-point average with no less than 12 hours of courses.
  • Elizabeth Wilson of Chapel Hill received a bachelor's degree from Emory University during commencement ceremonies May 14 in Atlanta. She is the daughter of Christopher and Barbara Wilson.
  • Rachel Blasiak of Chapel Hill received a bachelor's degree from Ithaca College's School of Humanities and Sciences during commencement ceremonies in May. She graduated magna cum laude. She is the daughter of Richard Blasiak and Elaine Cameron.

  • American legion Auxiliary Post 6 installed new officers at its July meeting. New officers are: Suzanne Moore, president; Carol Rigsbee, vice president; Nancy Sexton, secretary; Lisa Heavlin, treasurer; Francis Hearn, sergeant-at-arms; and Pearl Maynor, chaplain.

  • Samuel Max Nackman of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee R. Nackman. To qualify for the list, a student must receive grades equivalent to a 3.5 grade-pint average for the semester.
