- Dianne Tyndall of Chapel Hill was named to the honor roll for the spring semester at St. Mary's School in Raleigh. She is the daughter of Kathy and Don Tyndall. To make the list a student must maintain a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher in at least four academic courses while in good standing with the faculty and judicial board.
- Ethan Stang of Chapel Hill was named to the dean's list at UNC-Greensboro. To qualify for the list, a student must have a semester grade-point average of 3.5 (on a 4.0 grade scale) or higher and have completed 15 or more semester hours.
- Stephanie C. Freese of Pittsboro received a bachelor's degree from Colby College during commencement ceremonies May 27 in Waterville, Maine. She is the daughter of Robert and Pamela Freese and a graduate of East Chapel Hill High School.
- The Altrusa Club of Chapel Hill recently installed new officers. They are: Marty Grimson, president; Pamela Powell, vice president; Susan Bunch, treasurer; Ann Lou Jamerson, secretary; Fran Alguire, Better Maxwell and Madeline Sparrow, directors; and Danelle Hills, past president. Altrusa is a service club of business and professional women who work to better communities near and far.
- Four Hillsborough residents were named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Virginia Tech University. They are Robert M. Benson, William S. Byrd,
