Students picked for Governor's School

Twenty-one students from Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools were selected for the 2008 Governor's School of North Carolina.

From Carrboro High School, the students and their subjects are: Aidan R. Burns-Fulkeron, natural science; Kenneth B. Jjombwe, drama; Jonathan S. Kylstra, natural science; Jamie F. Luca, art; Cassandra L. McMillan, social science; and Ian D. Thomas, art.

From Chapel Hill High School, the students and their subjects are: Sarah E. Anderson, natural science; Shawn A. Kuruganti, choral music; Elizabeth C. McManus, choral music; Natalie P. Parks, natural science; William T. Wignall, instrumental music; and Mindy Yuan, instrumental music.

From East Chapel Hill High School, the students and their subjects are: Michaela C. Dwyer, dance; Mary S. Houston, English; Arthur S. Kim, mathematics; Charmaine P. Mutucumarana, French; Benjamin T. Palmer, drama; Charlotte A. Pate, drama; Joseph T. Shea, drama; Regina M. Strayhorn, drama; and Sunnay Z. You, English.

The Governor's School is the oldest statewide summer residential program for academically or intellectually gifted high school students in the nation. The program, open to rising seniors only (with some exceptions made for rising juniors in the performing and visual arts) is on two college campuses, Salem College in Winston-Salem and Meredith College in Raleigh. The sessions will run June 15 to July 26. More than 800 students were selected to attend.
