CHAPEL HILL -- The Muscular Dystrophy Association is "locking up" local executives and community leaders June 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Participants will be "arrested" in their offices and arrive "Western style" at the Franklin Hotel, 311 W Franklin St., where they will serve their sentences.
The "jailbirds" will raise "bail" with donations from friends, family, and business associates for MDA. This year, individual bails are set at $3,000; last year's Lock-up raised over $81,000. The money raised at the MDA Lock-Up will help fund health clinics throughout the Carolinas and sending local children to MDA Summer Camp. Approximately 350 people are registered to serve time at the event. Breakfast, lunch, and other snacks will be served to the incarcerated.
MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far-reaching professional and public health education. The Association's programs are funded almost entirely by individual private contributions.
