Amity raises funds for hunger relief

Amity United Methodist Church, 825 N. Estes Drive, has raised nearly $3,000, enough to purchase 14,000 meals, though its hunger relief program. Saturday, Amity will hold a "packing party"at 10 a.m. to package meals. Members of the community, including children, are invited to help.

The Rev. Tuck Taylor Bounds leads worship at Amity on Sundays at 11 a.m. Sunday school for all ages is at 9:45 a.m.

Amity offers multiple morning and evening Bible studies, including "Starbucks Bible Study" for teens, and a new Women's Bible Study with free child care.

First Baptist club marks anniversary

The First Baptist Church Willing Worker's Club will celebrate its 74th anniversary on Sunday at 5 p.m. The guest speaker will be evangelist and community activist Michelle Laws. Dinner will be served.

Binkley to host Baptist alliance

Binkley Baptist Church, 1712 Willow Drive, will host the North Carolina Alliance of Baptists for a day of fellowship, reflection, sharing and worship Saturday from 9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Chris Copeland, minister for leadership and congregational life with the Alliance of Baptists, will be the special guest. Cost is $10 per adult, including lunch and children's programming. Children and students free. Register by e-mailing jat_southbound@hotmail.com.

Binkley holds worship services each Sunday at 11 a.m. Adult Church School starts each Sunday at 9:30 a.m., prior to worship. Current offerings include "Coffee & Conversation" on faithful living; "Emmaus Class"; "Moral & Spiritual Giants"; "Choices for Sustainable Living"; and "Healthy Children/Healthy Planet." All are welcome.

Binkley will begin its Creation Season celebrations with a Feast of St. Francis and St. Clare after worship on Sunday. Participants should bring a vegetarian dish (and recipe) to share, and are encouraged to include at least one locally grown ingredient. Churches join on Communion Sunday

The Church of Reconciliation in Chapel Hill will join Covenant Presbyterian Church of Durham to celebrate World Wide Communion Sunday this Sunday at 11 a.m. in Durham.

Pastors Mark Davidson of Church of Reconciliation and Jimmie R. Hawkins of Covenant will preach, and the two joined choirs will sing.

This marks the 11th time these two churches have joined to worship together. Covenant is at 2060 E. Weaver St., Durham.

Christ United will hold day of service

Christ United Methodist Church, 800 Market Street in Southern Village, will hold a day of service to the community on Saturday.

A free breakfast for volunteers will be served from 7:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Participants can choose among a number of activities. Activities held at the church will include making blankets for children in need, making bookmarks to benefit Prison Ministry, making crafts for the Missions Bazaar and decorating gift bags for impoverished preschools overseas.

Activities outside the church include harvesting sweet potatoes for the Annual Yam Jam, the Society of St. Andrew's annual sweet potato harvest; helping with repair or cleanup for those in need; and Chatham County Habitat for Humanity.

UUMC to mark Communion Sunday

To celebrate World Communion Sunday, the University United Methodist Church Youth Choir will present songs from around the world at the 10:55 a.m. service Sunday.

The church will participate in two group mission projects Saturday. One group of adults and youth will participate in the Society of Saint Andrew's annual Yam Jam, gleaning sweet potatoes to help feed the hungry in our area.

Another group will continue to help build a Habitat for Humanity house for a family in Hillsborough.

Chapel holds meetings, services

Chapel in the Pines meets every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the multipurpose room at North Chatham School on 3380 Lystra Road. Child care is provided.

Sunday school classes for adults, youth and children begin at 9:15 a.m. Adult classes this fall will examine topics on Christians and politics, Christians and justice and a study of the book of Genesis.

Carrboro UMC to host Trunk-or-Treat

Carrboro United Methodist Church will host "Trunk or Treat" on Oct. 29 at 5:30 p.m.

Trunk-or-Treat provides a safe, family-friendly atmosphere for children to trick-or-treat.

Adults are invited to decorate their car trunks with a fall or Halloween theme and share candy with the children who attend.

The event is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required.

Sunday worship services at the United Church of Chapel Hill, 1321 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., are at 8:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. The Children's Choir will sing at the 8:45 service; the Chamber Singers will sing at the 11 a.m. service.

Mt. Zion to ordain minister

Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church Family will ordain Minister Wanda Dukes at a ceremony Sunday at 3 p.m.

The guest preacher will be Rev. Dr. William E. Daye, along with Peace Missionary Baptist Church Family from Durham. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.

New Salem holds services, programs

The Chapel Hill Kehillah Synagogue offers weekly Friday night services from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. to welcome Shabbat.

Services, events at Chapel of the Cross

Chapel of the Cross, 304 E. Franklin St., will hold services of Holy Eucharist at 7:30 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. in the chapel and at 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. in the church. Children's chapel, a service for children aged 2-5, is held during the 9 a.m. service. Sung Compline will be held Sunday at 9:30 p.m.

A service of Holy Eucharist will be held at 4 p.m. at Carol Woods Retirement Community.

Adult Education on Sunday at 10:20 a.m. will feature "The Town Before Brown," a documentary examining patterns of racial segregation in Chapel Hill prior to 1954.

"An Introduction to Worship Education" will be offered for parents of 1st- and 2nd-graders at 10:20 a.m.

Tuesday Morning Bible Study is held every week at 8:30 a.m. in the library. Episcopal Campus Ministry meets for dinner and fellowship Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. The Centering Prayer Group meets on Wednesdays at 5 p.m. in the parish house.

Advent Lutheran holds services
