Services, events at Chapel of the Cross
The fall schedule of services resumes Sunday at Chapel of the Cross, 304 E. Franklin St., with Holy Eucharist at 7:30, 9 and 11:15 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. and a service of sung Compline at 9:30 p.m.
A service of Holy Eucharist will be at 10 a.m. at the Carol Woods Retirement Community. This service is open to all and not limited to Carol Woods residents.
The parish office will be closed on Monday for the Labor Day holiday.
Tuesday Morning Bible study meetings will resume on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. in the parish library. This self-led study group meets weekly during academic term and new members are welcome at any time.
Episcopal Campus Ministry will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening in the campus center of the parish house.

The Centering Prayer Group will meet in the parish house today and Sept. 6 from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. This group, which focuses on a contemporary form of an ancient way of silent contemplative prayer, is open to new members at any time. Christ Church offers women's bible study
Christ United Methodist Church, 800 Market St. in Southern Village, will offer Legacy Bible Study, a new form of Women's Bible Study, starting Sept. 8.
The group will meet on Friday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 through April 2007.
All are invited to a free lunch and informational meeting on Sunday at 12:15 p.m. in the fellowship hall. The guest speaker will be Kathy Russell of Fresh Water Ministries.
Legacy Bible Study is an interdenominational community of women that will meet weekly to learn from the Bible, discuss their thoughts, pray together, and sing praise to God. The study is unique in that it will include an element of praise and worship.
Christ Church is looking beyond the walls of the church for enrollment in this Bible study; all are welcome. Participants will read chapters from the Gospel of Matthew, hear a lecture about the readings, and then discuss the relevance in their lives and relationships.

Hickory Grove to throw celebration for pastor
The Hickory Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 9112 Bethel-Hickory Grove Church Road in Chapel Hill, will celebrate the Rev. Charlie M. Williams' ninth Pastoral Anniversary at 11 a.m. on Sept. 10.

DivorceCare offered at University Methodist
University United Methodist Church, 150 E. Franklin St., will host a DivorceCare group beginning Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. at the church.
DivorceCare groups meet throughout the United States and internationally, offering support and resources to help people deal with the pain of the past and look forward to rebuilding their lives following a divorce.
Each DivorceCare session has two distinct elements: "A Seminar with Experts" and "A Support Group with Focus."
During the first 30 to 40 minutes of the meeting, each DivorceCare group watches a video seminar featuring top experts on divorce and recovery subjects. After viewing the video, DivorceCare group participants spend time as a support group, discussing what was presented in that week's video seminar and what is going on in the lives of group members.

Registration set for Sunday School
The Sunday School of the Children's Cultural Center, affiliated with the Triangle Congregation for Humanistic Judaism, will hold its Kick-Off Registration Celebration at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 10 at Murphy Hall on the UNC campus, behind South Building.
Registration is for children ages 2-12 and for bar/bat mitzvah.
The focus of the Children's Cultural Center is on teaching Jewish history, heroes, holidays and ethics, emphasizing character development in a secular intercultural Jewish environment.

Church of Reconciliation hosts an adult class
The Adult Education Class of The Church of Reconciliation, 110 N. Elliott Road in Chapel Hill, will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 17 in the Parish House Chapel. The class will have a presentation by Susan Attermeier, founder of the Orange County Literacy Council, and Alice Denson, the council's director.
The discussion will focus upon the prevalence of low literacy in Orange County, the life implications of low literacy, and what is being done about it.
