Ed and Sharon Lavin of Waxhaw announce the engagement of their daughter Kimberly Rene Lavin to Clayton Adam Barker, son of Terry and Kaye Barker of Chapel Hill.

The bride-elect is a graduate of N.C. State University and the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn. She is an optometrist in Raleigh.

The groom-elect received a bachelor's degree and a doctorate in statistics from N.C. State University. He is a statistician with SAS in Cary.

The wedding ceremony is set for May 31 in Charlotte.
