Christa Leigh Carter and Scott Sina Abedi were married June 7 in Watts Street Baptist Church in Durham. The Rev. Mel Williams and the Rev. R. Lee Carter officiated at the double-ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of the Rev. R. Lee Carter and Pamela Carter of Hillsborough. She received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in social work from UNC-Chapel Hill. She is a foster care social worker.
The groom is the son of Cyrus and Jaleh Abedi of Raleigh. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer engineering from N.C. State University. He plans to enter medical school in the fall at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.
Maid of honor was Melody James of Jamestown. Bridesmaids were Jessica P. Byrd of Martinsburg, W.Va.; Michele Beard of San Diego; and Alyson Peery of New York City. Junior bridesmaid was M. Alexandra Wilkins of Durham.
Best man was Nick Abedi of Lexington, Ky. Ushers were Chad Byrd of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and Jonathan Carter and Aram Harijan, both of Chapel Hill.
Ringbearer was Alexander Byrd of Martinsburg, W.Va.
Flowergirls were Ariana Byrd of Martinsburg, W.Va.; Willow Abedi of Lexington, Ky.; and Rubey and Grace Murphy, both of Chapel Hill.
Music was provided by the Chancel Choir of Watts Street Baptist Church. Organist was Tom Bloom. Jonathan Carter, bother of the bride, sang.
Following a reception hosted by the bride’s parents was held in Rigsbee Hall in Durham, the couple took a wedding trip to Hawaii.
