- A reception for an art exhibit of works by Dale Morgan, creator of the wildlife paintings that appear on these pages, and Claire Miller will be March 2 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Totten Center of the N.C. Botanical Garden. The exhibit will be on display until April 30.
- Cats and dogs from the Orange County Animal Shelter will be at adopt-a-thons at Southern States in Carrboro March 2, noon-2 p.m.; the Triangle Sportsplex in Hillsborough on March 8, noon-2 p.m.; Phydeaux in Carrboro on March 15, noon-2 p.m.; and at K&G Pets in Mebane on March 29.
- Dog-training classes taught by Barbara Long begin March 12 at Carolina Meadows. Classes run for six weeks and cost $65. Classes offered are Basic Obedience/Family Dog; Canine Good Citizen (must have prior basic obedience training or approval of trainer); and Therapy Dog (must have Canine Good Citizen certification or approval of trainer). - Pet Behavior Help is hosting The Lance Memorial Canines for the Cure NADAC Agility Trial, March 15-16. All proceeds will go to the National Canine Cancer Foundation, which is dedicated to finding improved diagnostic methods to detect cancer in dogs at an early stage, better treatment for dogs with cancer, and a cure for canine cancer. - Creative Learning about Wildlife (CLAWS) will make a presentation at the Carrboro Branch Library, 900 Old Fayetteville Road, on March 26 at 3 p.m.
- In 2007, The Coalition to Unchain Dogs will hold a fundraising yard sale on April 12, and the coalition is seeking volunteers and donations. - Twenty-dollar spay-neuter vouchers are available to Chatham County residents whose household income is less than 200 percent of the federal income guidelines.
