As an accompaniment to the popular permanent exhibit "Heroes of Yesterday, Heroes of Today: The History of the Chapel Hill Fire Department," the Chapel Hill Museum is showing a short film called "Chiefs: The Modern Era."

The film details the careers of the two men who have served as chief of the Chapel Hill Fire Department in the last 40 years. Chief Everett Lloyd was a self-proclaimed "country boy" who climbed the ranks throughout the department in the 1960s. The professionally polished Dan Jones came to the department as chief in 1990 and is still in charge.

The film, and the exhibit that spawned it, is a microcosm of Chapel Hill's history since the early 1960s. The film touches on the highlights of both chiefs' careers, from Lloyd's efforts to desegregate the department to Jones' work at the national level as advocate for fire safety in campus housing.

Written, narrated and directed by Chapel Hill Fire Department st Sgt. Chris Bradley, the film was produced collaboratively by Bradley and Chapel Hill Museum Director Traci Davenport.

This film is available for viewing in the Museum's East Gallery Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.
