Donald Brett Thomas and Janet Alice Mann will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on July 25.
They were were married July 25, 1959 at Epworth Methodist Church in Baltimore, Md. Soon after, they moved to Chapel Hill and have called it home ever since.
Don and Janet are both retired from UNC, where Janet worked in the Chancellor's office and Don worked for the Carolina Population Center. They raised two daughters who liked Chapel Hill so much they both graduated from UNC.
Karen Thomas and husband Ken Bowen live in Holly Springs. Laura Thomas, husband Andy Wood and children Hannah and Ben Wood, live in Chapel Hill. Karen and Laura are proud of their parents for many reasons, and now they joyfully celebrate and congratulate them on this truly momentous occasion.

Treve Lumsden
Michael and Beverly Winebar of Southport announce the engagement of their daughter, Amanda Blair Winebar, to Treve Braswell Lumsden, son of Treve and Peggy Lumsden of Beaufort.
The bride-elect is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill. She is a teacher at Ephesus Elementary School.
The groom-elect is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a teacher at East Chapel Hill High School.
The wedding ceremony is planned for Sept. 5, 2009, in Southport.

George Monteleone
Kathryn Ann Parker and George Taylor Monteleone were married July 11, 2009, at Newman Catholic Student Center at UNC-Chapel Hill. Monsignor John Wall officiated at the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Ray and Debbie Parker of Chapel Hill. She received a bachelor's degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and a master's from the Art Institute of Chicago. She is the director of Hoffman Art Gallery.
The groom is the son of Darryl and Marianne Monteleone of Jim Thorpe, Pa. He received a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University and has an MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago. He is a data analyst at the University of Chicago Department of Social and Cognitive Neuroscience and an adjunct professor at DePaul University.
The bride was given in marriage by her father and wore her maternal grandmother's 1950 satin wedding gown.
Maid of honor was Katie Rashid of New York City, N.Y.
Best man was Michaelangelo Monteleone, brother of the groom, of Atlanta, Ga.
Ushers were Michael D'Alesio and Victor D'Alesio, both of Harrison City, Pa.; and Reid Napoleon of Pleasanton, Calif. All are cousins of the bride.
A reception was hosted by the bride's parents at The Carolina Inn.
Following a wedding trip to Belize, the couple will live in Chicago, Ill.

John Reeves Goldfinch Jr.
Ann Holland Hughes and John Reeves Goldfinch Jr. were married on July 18, 2009, at Grace Lutheran Church in Raleigh. The Rev. Michael Frye officiated at the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Dan R. Hughes (Mary Kyle Hughes) and Mr. Dan R. Hughes of Raleigh.
She is a graduate of UNC-CH with bachelor's degrees in music and French, and a Master of Arts in teaching. She is a music teacher at Brooks Elementary School in Raleigh.
The groom is the son of Mrs. John Reeves Goldfinch (Carolyn Bertie Goldfinch) and the late John Reeves Goldfinch of Chapel Hill.
He is a graduate of N.C. State with a degree in computer science. He is a performance engineer for NetApp.
The bride was given in marriage by her father, Dan R. Hughes.
The matron of honor was Katherine Hughes Richardson, sister of the bride, of Burlington.
Bridesmaids were Alexandra Calix-Hughes, sister-in-law of the bride; Martha O'Byrne Goldfinch, sister of the groom; Erin Nicole Potts, friend of the bride; Robin Harrell Queen, friend of the bride; and Johanna Kislik Rogers, friend of the bride.
Best man was Artie Benjamin Chesnut IV, friend of the groom, of Indian Trail.
Ushers were William Allen Aldridge II, friend of the groom; Kyle Porter Hughes, brother of the bride; David Troy Newsome, friend of the groom; Jon Andrew Ratty, friend of the groom; and John Marion Richardson, brother-in-law of the bride.
Music was provided by soprano soloist Kimberley Bentley of New York.
A reception was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hughes at Brier Creek Country Club.
Following a wedding trip to Hawaii, the couple will live in Raleigh.

Miles Morrison Crawford was born to Greg and Allison Crawford of Chapel Hill on June 28, 2009 at Duke University Hospital. Excited big brother is Gavin Crawford, and proud grandparents are Don and Barbara Enns of Deerfield, Ill., and Bob and Winnie Crawford of Lake Forest, Ill.
