Katherine LaVange

Hathaway Pendergrass

Katherine Elise LaVange and Hathaway Steele Pendergrass were married on June 27, 2009, at University United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill. The Rev. Carl H. King officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Ben and Lisa LaVange of Chapel Hill.

She is a 2002 graduate of Chapel Hill High School and a 2006 graduate of Elon University, with a major in middle grades education and minors in mathematics and music. She is a middle school mathematics teacher at Carolina Friends School beginning this fall. She is also currently pursuing her master's degree in mathematics education at UNC.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Steele Pendergrass of Carrboro.

He is a 2002 graduate of Chapel Hill High School and a 2006 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a major in business administration. He will attend North Carolina Central University Law School this fall.

The bride was given in marriage by her parents.

Bridesmaids were Hallie Zook of Greensboro; Erin Howe of Dallas, Texas; Carrie Morgan of Melbourne, Australia; Lauryn Dance of Tampa, Fla.; and Caroline Miller of Kernersville.

The best man was Donald Pendergrass, father of the groom, of Carrboro.

Ushers were Brandon Mayes of San Diego, Calif.; Felix Kabigting of Hillsborough; Ryan Huckabee of Chapel Hill; Cliff Minsley of Tampa, la.; and John Pendergrass of Greensboro, a cousin of the groom.

Music was provided by Tim Baker, organist, and Katy Maguire, soloist.

A reception, hosted by the bride's parents, was held at the Carolina Club in Chapel Hill.

Following a wedding trip to Rome and Sorrento, Italy, the couple will live in Chapel Hill.
