CARRBORO -- Karen West, the owner of the Thimble Pleasures sewing shop on Main Street in Carrboro, was just opening on a quiet morning when a buck crashed through the display window and knocked over a table and sewing machine.

There was blood and fur everywhere.

The deer, though badly injured, didn't stay long. It leapt out the same window and was found dead several miles away on Chuck Morton's front porch.

"Police arrived, and they just said, 'Be careful, don't touch any of the blood,' " West said. "People kept saying, he must have seen his reflection in the window, and gone for it. We're just lucky no one was in the store."
