CHAPEL HILL -- Winners of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce's 2007 Business of the Year Awards and the Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award were announced Tuesday at the Carolina Club.

A Better Image Printing received the 2007 Small Business of the Year Award. S.H. Basnight and Sons Inc. received the Midsize Business of the Year Award. The Siena Hotel received the Large Business of the Year Award. And The Franklin Hotel received the Business Newcomer of the Year Award.

UNC-Chapel Hill Chancellor James Moeser received the Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award, the Chamber's highest honor.

A committee of Chamber and community members met in January to elect finalists from a pool of business of the year nominees. Winners were elected by secret ballot at the Chamber's board of directors January meeting and were announced for the first time on Jan. 29.

A Better Image Printing, S.H. Basnight and Sons and The Siena Hotel were selected as winners based on the following award criteria: Business of the Year Awards are presented to outstanding Chamber member businesses that, having been under the same ownership or management for the past three years, have shown growth, innovation of product, exemplary customer service, response to adversity and/or contribution to the community.

The Newcomer Business of the Year is presented to the outstanding Chamber member, less than three years old, that has shown innovation in its field, creativity in its start up, likelihood of long term success and contribution to the community.

More than 400 Chamber of Commerce members attended Tuesday's annual meeting.
