Orange County museum group receives grant
The North Carolina Preservation Consortium has awarded the Historical Foundation of Hillsborough and Orange County a grant of $1,250.
The foundation, which operates the Orange County Historical Museum, used the grant to purchase a flat file for the storage of the foundations maps and oversized historical documents.
The maps in the collection include an original Sanborn Fire Insurance map from 1888 and a hand-drawn map from 1863. Oversized documents include land indenture documents from the 18th and 19th centuries, and a subscription record for the Hillsborough Presbyterian Church, dating to 1825. The flat file will allow for better preservation of the maps and documents and will provide easier access for research.
The North Carolina Preservation Consortium is a nonprofit organization founded in 1989 to promote the preservation of cultural, educational, research, and historic collections in our state's libraries, archives, museums, historic sites, record centers, and document depositories. NCPC also informs the general public about preservation to safeguard private collections and family treasures.
