HILLSBOROUGH -- The Historical Foundation of Hillsborough and Orange County, which operates the Orange County Historical Museum, is pleased to announce the receipt of a grant from the North Carolina Preservation Consortium. The $1,250.00 has been used to purchase a flat file, for the storage of the foundations maps and oversized historical documents. The maps in the collection include an original Sanborn Fire Insurance map from 1888 and a hand-drawn map from 1863. Oversized documents include land indenture documents from the 18th and 19th centuries, and a subscription record for the Hillsborough Presbyterian Church, dating to 1825. The flat file will allow for better preservation of the maps and documents and will provide easier access for research.
