- Someone forced open a door at Padgett Station early Tuesday morning and stole $1.10 from the tip jar.
- A front door was forced open at a Watters Road residence on Tuesday, and a computer was stolen.
- Someone may have tried to break into McDougle Elementary School early Tuesday morning. According to a police report, officers responded to a security alarm at the school and found handprints on several windows that Òappeared to have been made by someone who was trying to slide the windows up.Ó The officers were unable to locate any suspects.
- Edward Sebastian Oglesby, 46, of 1820 James St., Durham, was arrested Tuesday and charged with larceny, shoplifting and concealment of goods. According to a police report, he tried to steal deodorants, body sprays, an electric razor and Òother hygiene productsÓ from Rite Aid on Jones Ferry Road, but he was caught by an employee who recovered the items.
- Carlos Alfonso Valentin, 23, of 200 N.C. 54, was arrested Tuesday and charged with driving while impaired, according to a police report. He was released on a written promise to appear in court.
- A man identified only as ÒJuan DoeÓ because he refused to give his name, age or address, was arrested Wednesday and charged with driving while impaired following a car accident at the corner of Bert Street and Davie Road. He was held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail.
- An injured raccoon was found inside a garbage bin Wednesday at Wilkinson Supply on Barnes Street. Police contacted animal control.
Chapel Hill
- A UNC student reported that he was assaulted Sept. 7 while visiting the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity House.
- UNC student Stephen Hunter Rome, 20, of 309 Brookside Drive Extension, was arrested Tuesday and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, according to a police report. Police said they could not find additional information about the incident. Rome was released on a written promise to appear in court.
- Marcus Lee Sharpe, 20, of 7803 Rogers Road, was arrested Monday and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, assault by strangulation, and discharging a firearm. According to a police report, Sharpe assaulted and threatened a woman with a handgun after an argument on Caldwell Street on Sept. 6. He was held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $20,000.
- n Cletus Dark, 49, whose address was listed as the streets, was arrested Monday and charged with misdemeanor larceny. According to a police report, Dark tried to steal two jewelry items from DillardÕs at University Mall.
- A Sheraton Hotel employee reported Tuesday that a $3,000 projector was stolen from an unlocked room at the hotel.
- A Church Street resident reported Tuesday that someone defecated on her house.
- A suspicious vehicle fire was reported Wednesday at a North Elliot Road parking lot. Three vehicles were damaged in the blaze, and the total damage was estimated at $16,500. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
- Sabrina Nicole Shaw, 30, of 9099 Mail Service Center in Raleigh, was arrested Wednesday and charged with assault with the intent to kill or cause serious injury. According to a police report, she struck a man with her car on Piney Mountain Road. She was held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
- Jeffrey Lee Thomas, 40, and Jane Kerfoot Thomas, 38, of Cedar Point, were arrested Thursday and charged with vehicle breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods, according to police reports. Jane Thomas was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. They were held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $3,500 bail each.
- Home break-ins this week:
Someone entered a Whitehead Circle home and stole $1,500 in loose coins. A plasma TV, two video game systems and a stereo were reported stolen from a Kingswood Apartments residence. Someone tried to break into a Chesley Lane home, causing $600 damage to doors an windows, but nothing was stolen. A checkbook was stolen from a White Oak Way residence but no break-in was reported. And a $250 cell phone was stolen from Chapel Ridge Apartments. - n Vehicle break-ins:
An unlocked door was opened and someone stole a purse, $300 cash, a credit card, a debit card, a bracelet, three pairs of earrings, a driverÕs license, a $1,000 check and car keys from a vehicle on East Franklin Street. A cell phone was stolen from an unlocked car on Taylor Street. Twenty-five credit or debit cards and $150 cash were stolen from another unlocked car on Leclair Street. Someone broke into a car on Dawes Street and stole four credit or debit cards. And an ash tray and GPS unit were stolen from an unlocked vehicle in a Longleaf Drive parking lot.
