An Orange County woman is free on $100,000 bond while she awaits trial on a charge of helping her son and his friends hide the body of a man they are accused shooting.

At a court hearing on Wednesday, Superior Court Judge Carl Fox lowered the $1 million bail for Mishele Minton, 37. She and her husband, Greg Minton, are charged with being accessories after the fact in the murder of Josh Bailey, 20.

Greg Minton went free on $100,000 bond Monday. He is accused of visiting the crime scene off Twisted Oak Drive in Chapel Hill and advising his son and the others about how to conceal evidence.

District Attorney Jim Woodall urged Fox to set Mishele Minton's bond at $250,000 because she "was a more active participant in this case, and therefore we think she is a greater danger to the community."

Mishele Minton is accused of driving another defendant to a Lowe's Home Improvement store in Chapel Hill to buy plastic sheeting to wrap Bailey's body and hydrocholoric acid to destroy evidence. She is also accused of using a fake name to rent a U-Haul truck from her family's business to transport the body to Jordan Lake.

"The bottom line is that their actions are all after the fact, and there's just no evidence before this court that they're a danger to the community," said Fox. "There may be evidence of bad judgment."

The seven remaining suspects are due in court on Oct. 28 and could have their bonds reconsidered at that point.

Six of them are charged with murder and are being held without bond. The seventh, Chris Manley, 23, is being held on $1 million on a charge of acting as an accessory after the fact.
