CARRBORO
  • A Carrboro man reported Friday that his vehicle had been stolen from the Royal Park Apartments on N.C. 54 where he lives. According to a police report, officers quickly located the car "in the woods" at the intersection of Old N.C. 86 and Arthur Minnis Road. They found it "had sustained extreme damage to the majority of the vehicle," and was covered in dirt and mud on both the exterior and interior. The interior was also damp and the car appeared to have collided with a telecommunications panel and come to rest in standing water.
  • McDougle Middle School's alarm went off Saturday when someone broke into one of the buildings. Police arrived to find it was a teacher who had arrived at the school early to begin setting up her classroom and had accidentally set off the alarm.
  • Police were contacted Saturday when a Carrboro woman noticed "an orange cat walking slowly" on Pathway Drive. The complainant told police no officer assistance was needed.
  • A second-degree rape was reported on Sunday. The victim stated the rape had occurred at her Carrboro home.
  • Mark Elliott Bennett, 45, of 180 BPW Club Road L8, was arrested Sunday near his home and charged with driving while impaired. According to a police report, Bennett's blood-alcohol level was 0.14. He was released on a written promise to appear in court.
  • Jose Neris Pineda, 32, of 3300 Shannon Road 5C in Durham, was arrested at his home Sunday following his involvement in an accident on Jones Ferry Road. Pineda was charged with driving while impaired, driving without a license and a hit and run. According to a police report, his blood-alcohol level was 0.13. He was held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail.
  • A home break-in was reported over the weekend at Berkshire Manor West Apartments on N.C. 54, and a vehicle break-in was reported on East Main Street.

CHAPEL HILL
  • Mama Dip's Country Kitchen on West Rosemary Street suffered a robbery overnight Friday when stainless steel appliances totaling $2,500 in value were stolen from the restaurant's back porch.
  • Jamie Lamont Yarborough, 30, of 406 N. Hyde Park in Durham, was arrested Friday night on N.C. 54 and charged with driving while impaired, driving with an open beverage and driving with a suspended license. According to a police report, Yarborough's blood alcohol level was 0.13. Yarborough was released on a written promise to appear in court.
  • Ashley Laura Green, 25, of 5509 Creek Ridge Lane U in Raleigh, was arrested Saturday morning on North Columbia Street and charged with driving while impaired. According to a police report, Green's blood-alcohol level was 0.16. She was released on a written promise to appear in court.
  • Eric Urman Sarver, 25, of 4432 Manns Chapel Road, was arrested Saturday morning on North Street and charged with driving while impaired, driving without a license and failing to stop his vehicle at an accident. According to police reports, Sarver hit a pole while trying to leave the parking deck on East Rosemary Street and his blood-alcohol level was 0.19. Sarver was released on a written promise to appear in court.
  • Fredy Cordero Lopez, 28, of 212 Pinegate Circle 1, was arrested Saturday morning on Ephesus Church Road and charged with driving while impaired, resisting arrest and driving without a license. According to a police report, Lopez's blood-alcohol level was 0.20. He was held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $250 bail.
  • Steven Lee Corey, 22, of 1340 Ephesus Church Road 1, was arrested Saturday morning and charged with driving while impaired after his involvement in an accident on U.S. 15-501. According to police reports, Corey hit a tree in the median of the highway near Cleland Road around 6 a.m., and admitted to using drugs and alcohol before driving. He was taken to UNC Hospital, then held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $500 bail.
  • A cruelty to animals incident was reported to police Saturday morning. According to a police report, a dog's owner was out of town and a Bynum Court resident was taking care of it. The caretaker told police she left the dog outside and when she came back it appeared someone had hit the animal, causing damage to its eye and causing it to become afraid of human contact. The damage to the dog was estimated at $40.
  • Sherwood Louis Weaver, 44, of 424 Hanson Road, was arrested Saturday night on North Columbia Street and charged with driving while impaired. According to a police report, Weaver was taken to UNC Hospital and then released.
  • Lorenzo Genaren Nesbitt III, 31, of 6461 Freeport Road in Fayetteville, was arrested Sunday morning on East Rosemary Street and charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and failing to carry a driver's license. According to a police report, Nesbitt was held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
  • Andrew Robert Belton, 25, of 6205 Farrington Road L13, was arrested Sunday morning at the intersection of Rosemary and Columbia Streets and charged with driving while impaired. According to a police report, Belton's blood-alcohol level was 0.10 and he was held in custody until sober.
  • Jonathan Michael Brown, 20, of 218 N. Boylan St. in Raleigh, was arrested Monday morning on Umstead Drive and charged with damage to property, underage possession of alcohol, being drunk and disruptive and resisting arrest. According to a police report, Brown's blood-alcohol level was 0.26. He was held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $250 bail.
  • Home break-ins were reported over the weekend at Lakeshore Drive and Homestead Road. Vehicle break-ins were reported on East Franklin Street, North Columbia Street and at Kingswood Apartments on N.C. 54, while a wallet was reported missing from a vehicle that had been towed from Pinegate Circle. Vandalized vehicles were reported on Copperline Drive and Weaver Dairy Road.
