- A suspicious person notice was made Tuesday from Jones Ferry Road when someone notified police they had seen a bald male wearing a hospital gown running through Willow Creek Shopping Center toward Food Lion. According to a police report, officers arrived and checked all the businesses at the shopping center but were unable to locate anyone matching the description.
- Police responded to a call Wednesday "in reference to a dog walking around" on Main Street. According to a police report, an officer was able to locate the animal but he stated "the dog would not let me get close to it." The report then added, "the dog left heading across N.C. 54," and police did not pursue.
- McDougle and Morris Grove elementary schools suffered a combined $1,600 hit last week when a data projector was found stolen from McDougle and two windows were shattered at Morris Grove. Police received a report Wednesday that the projector, which had been mounted to the ceiling and is valued at $1,000, was stolen some time in the last month. No other damage to McDougle was found. Meanwhile, the new elementary school also reported a breaking and entering case on Wednesday, with damage to the two windows and a door.
- Home break-ins were reported during the workweek on High Street and twice on Manor Ridge Drive. Vehicle break-ins were reported on Laurel Avenue and at Toreros Mexican Restaurant on N.C. 54.
CHAPEL HILL
- A tenor trombone was stolen from a Longview Street home last weekend. The owner reported Monday that his instrument, valued at $1,200 with a $100 hard case, was taken from his car between Friday and Monday while the vehicle was parked outside his residence.
- Cordney Rayshan Burnette, 17, of 317 Boundbrook Drive in Mebane, was arrested Tuesday night on West Franklin Street and charged with possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, according to a police report. He was held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.
- Someone left La Hacienda on U.S. 15-501 without paying the bill for their lunch on Tuesday, sticking the restaurant with a $61 tab.
- James Fitzgerald Campbell, 44, of 128 Shepard Lane Apartments D-6, was arrested Wednesday afternoon on South Estes Drive and charged with breaking and entering to commit larceny, according to a police report. He was held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $4,000 bail.
- A handicap access lift at the Town of Chapel Hill's Transit Administration Building on Millhouse Road was found damaged on Tuesday. The damage will cost the town $5,000 to fix.
- An "illegal dumping" incident was reported Thursday at University United Methodist Church on East Franklin Street. According to a police report, "noxious chemicals" were poured into a storm drain at the church.
- Darius Lamar Villines, 21, of 628 Cedar St. B in Hillsborough, was arrested Thursday night on Elliott Road and charged with breaking and entering, larceny and resisting arrest, according to a police report. He was held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $10,200 bail.
- Police received a report Thursday from a Durham man who said he was robbed as he tried to use an ATM on Dobbins Drive. The victim said someone approached him and demanded money, leaving after he gave the person $20.
- A Homestead Road resident reported Thursday that someone invaded her home with a gun, stealing both her cell phone and her car.
- Christopher Michael Fields, 23, of 105 Overlook Point, was arrested Thursday morning at Raleigh and Barbee Chapel roads and charged with assault on a government official and damaging personal property. According to police reports, Fields was initially stopped by police for drunk and disruptive behavior after reportedly banging on the doors of the Marriott on Erwin Road. While in a patrol car, though, Fields kicked the rear driver's side window out, injuring an officer and costing the city another $200 to fix the window, the report said. Fields was taken to UNC Hospitals.
- Home break-ins were reported during the workweek onTimberlyne Road, Whisper Lane, Ellen Place, Cole Street and Dawes Street. Vehicle break-ins were reported on Highgrove Drive, Drew Hill Lane, Carmichael Street and two at South Estes Drive. Vehicles were reported vandalized on Parkside Circle, Johnson Street and Willow Drive.
