CARRBORO

• A South Hound Court resident reported Monday that someone slashed his car's tires. He told police he suspects his ex-girlfriend, as she has been harassing him by phone.

• A Barnes Street resident reported Monday that she lost thousands of dollars in a scam. She said a man asked her to help him complete a business transaction. He sent her a $2,850 check and she sent a money transfer to Nigeria for $2,449.75. Bank of America then notified her that the check was counterfeit and requested the full amount be returned.

• A crack pipe was found on the playground of Carrboro Elementary School on Monday.

• Home break-ins this week:

Someone broke into a North Greensboro Street home while the residents slept, entering through the back door and stealing a computer, several video games and a mixer. A window was broken and two wallets were stolen from a North Greensboro Street residence. Someone stole a Playstation and a laptop from a Lisa Drive residence, but there were no signs of forced entry. A window was forced open at a Hillcrest Avenue residence and a cell phone, a camera and an iPod were stolen. And someone entered an Estes Drive Extension apartment by breaking a sliding glass door, but nothing was reported stolen.

• Vehicle thefts and break-ins:

A 1999 Dodge Stratus was stolen from the parking lot of Royal Park Apartments on N.C. 54. The victim said the car can be started without a key but she remembered locking the doors. A 2000 Jeep Wrangler was stolen from Highland Hills Apartments on BPW Club Road. A GPS unit and $10 in change were stolen from an unsecured vehicle on Wild Oak Lane. A CD player and a TV were stolen from a car at Abbey Court Apartments on Jones Ferry Road. And two residents of Estes Park Apartments reported that their mopeds were stolen.

CHAPEL HILL

• Juan Lopez Gomez, 31, of 1105 N.C. 54 Unit H3, was arrested Monday and charged with felony possession of stolen goods. According to a police report, he stole a fire department jacket from a fire truck on West Rosemary Street. The jacket was valued at $500.

• A Gardner Circle resident reported Monday that someone threw candy in their yard.

• Patrick Levon Satterwhite, 30, of 811 Shannon Drive, and Bradley Devon Scott, 32, of 2733 Holloway St. Unit D1 in Durham, were arrested Tuesday and charged with vehicle breaking and entering and possession of stolen goods. According to a police report, Satterwhite and Scott entered an unlocked vehicle on Adams Way and stole a GPS unit, $4.06 in cash and a glasses case.

• A Silver Creek Trail resident reported on Tuesday that his identity was stolen in an attempt to obtain a fraudulent online car loan.

• Mackenzie Walker Turvey, 18, of 417 Lakeshore Lane, was arrested Tuesday and charged with driving while impaired, speeding and reckless driving. According to a police report, Turvey's blood alcohol level was 0.11.

• Soft drinks valued at $50 and $40 cash were stolen from an East Franklin Street vending machine on Wednesday.

• Edward Sebastian Oglesby, 46, of 130 Estes Drive Unit E3, was arrested Wednesday and charged with being a fugitive. According to a police report, Oglesby was wanted by the N.C. Department of Corrections.

• Someone broke into a storage area at Ace Hardware on Weaver Dairy Road on Wednesday by breaking locks, but nothing was stolen.

• James Horace Malloy, 44, of 609 Gomains Ave. Unit A, was arrested Wednesday and charged with assault inflicting injury and false imprisonment, according to a report.

• Marzella Jackson, 41, of 738 Pritchard Ave. Extension, was arrested Thursday and charged with possession of stolen goods, according to a report.

• Charzena Williams, 20, of 301 Lorraine St. in Carrboro, was arrested Thursday and charged with possession of stolen goods and having no liability insurance. According to a police report, Williams had a stolen license plate.

• A Cedar Hills Drive resident reported Thursday that someone left a vehicle in their front yard.

• Gregory Antonio McDonald, 39, of 100 W. Rosemary St., was arrested Thursday and charged with felony failure to register as a sex offender, according to a report.

•Eddie Arnold Gattis Jr., 41, of 100 W. Rosemary St., was arrested Thursday and charged with vehicle breaking and entering and possession of stolen goods. According to a police report, Gattis stole a GPS unit and $12.43 in change from a vehicle in a McMasters Street parking lot.

• A Flemington Road resident reported Friday that someone was looking in the window of their home.

• John Matthew Schweighardt, 21, of Cary, was arrested Friday and charged with driving while impaired and damaging real property. According to a police report, Schweighardt damaged a sign at the entrance to Shadowood Apartments on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard when he crashed his car.

• Home break-ins this week:

Someone attempted to break into an Isley Street residence by cutting a window screen, but nothing was stolen. A TV was stolen from an unsecured Jackie Robinson Street residence. And someone entered an N.C. 54 apartment and stole $100 of audio and video recordings and $30 cash.

• Vehicle break-ins:

A $600 handgun and $5 cash were stolen from a vehicle on Dogwood Drive. Someone entered an unlocked vehicle on Church Street and stole a $300 iPod. And a $500 GPS unit was stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Oakwood Drive.
