Harry William Siefert of Chapel Hill died April 20 at his home. He was 88.He was born in Philadelphia and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1943 he successfully qualified as a certified public accountant.He began his career with the accounting firm of Fernald and Company, then spent seven years with Lybrand, Ross Brothers and Montgomery (now PriceWaterhouseCoopers). Leaving public accounting, he joined the controller's department of The Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company. He also was employed by American Standard Inc., National Lead Company, CNA Financial and The Liggett Group, from which he retired in January 1982 as senior vice president of finance and a director.He was formerly a member of the Chapel Hill Rotary, Chapel Hill Country Club, and Croasdaile Country Club. A 33-year resident of Chapel Hill, he moved to Carolina Meadows in July 2006.The family will receive visitors on Saturday, April 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. at 304 Magnolia Drive in Carolina Meadows.Survivors include his wife, Margaret; two daughters, Joan Siefert Rose of Chapel Hill and Janet Siefert Goss of New York City; and two grandsons.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Carolina Friends School, 4809 Friends School Road, Durham, N.C. 27705.
