C. Matthew "Mac" Maynor of Chapel Hill died at his home March 26. He was 68.

He was a lifelong resident of Chapel Hill who retired from the Chapel Hill Fire Department in 1992 after 31 years with the service. He began his career in 1965 as a firefighter and retired as a battalion chief.

A celebration of his life will be conducted May 17 at 11 a.m. at Duke Memorial United Methodist Church in Durham by the Rev. Albert Williams.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Maynor; a daughter, Vicki Maynor Isley; a sister, Clydia "Holly" Holland of Chapel Hill; two brothers, Ross Maynor of Lynchburg, Va., and Harold Maynor of Todd; and a grandson.
