Thomas Harding Jewett died Aug. 14.
A devoted husband and son, a patient, generous father who never failed the people he loved, Tom was a true Southern gentleman. Born in Wilmington on July 4, 1922, he grew up in Winston-Salem. After two years in the infantry during World War II he returned to graduate from the University of North Carolina in 1947. He joined the newly formed Coca Cola Export Corporation in July 1947, retiring as assistant treasurer of the Coca Cola Corporation and senior vice president and treasurer of the Coca Cola Finance Corporation in 1984. During his years at Coke, Tom worked in Hawaii, Manila, Japan, New York, Nassau, Buenos Aires and Atlanta.
After retirement, he taught at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
At the time of his death he lived at Fearrington Village in Chapel Hill. He will be missed and remembered by Jean Curtin Jewett, his wife of 61 years; his six children: Kelleher, Curt (Maria), Robert (Amy), Susan (Marsha), Leslie (Patrick) and David (Paula); and nine grandchildren (Valerie Jewett, Beth Toriello, Tom and Joe Jewett, Patty, Danny, Andrew, Sarah, and Emma Paddon): "Love has no ending."
A service will be held Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the Cross in Chapel Hill. Friends and family are invited to the service and to join the family at home afterwards.
