Dorothy Thompson

Dorothy Harris Thompson, 84, formerly of Mann's Chapel Road, died peacefully at The Laurels of Chatham on Tuesday.

Thompson was a native of Chatham County, born March 11, 1924, one of five children to Will and Mary Herndon Harris. She was educated in Chatham County schools, and was employed by Carr Mill for a number of years. She was a longtime member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her sister, Hilda Potts of Durham; nephews and a niece. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Earl; brothers Frank and Wes Harris; and sister, Louise Mann.

The funeral service was held Friday at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, with interment in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, 269 Mann's Chapel Road, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

Richard "Rick" Warner Pratt

Richard "Rick" Warner Pratt, 63, died suddenly at his home on Feb. 15.

He was the son of Dorothy and Russell Pratt. He graduated from the University of Florida and the University of South Florida with advanced degrees in geology and hydrogeology, and was an expert in groundwater contamination. While working for Law Engineering, he was instrumental in the development of the Atlanta and Miami Rapid Transit Systems, and worked on determining the viability of various sites for nuclear power plants.

Rick was dearly loved by his wife, Lesley, and their two children, Leigh, of Chapel Hill, and Will, of Boone, a brother and sister-in-law, Art and Janet Pratt, of Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., and mother-in-law Rita Travers of Marietta, Ga.

A memorial service was held at the Chapel Hill Bible Church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations may be made in Rick's honor and memory to the American Heart Association, 3131 RDU Center Drive, Morrisville, NC, 27560 or to St. Jude's Children's Association, P.O. Box 50 Memphis, TN 38101.
