Roberta Van Geyt Gage
Roberta (Bobbie) Van Geyt Gage died in the presence of her family at Durham Regional Hospital on Tuesday.
She was born May 23, 1930, to Peter and Grace McAlexander Van Geyt and in Tampa, Fla. Bobbie graduated from Brown University, Cum Laude in economics. There she met and married her husband, Richard K. Gage, in June 1951.
Bobbie was active for many years in the Durham women's Bible Study Fellowship. Her heart for other people was evidenced through her volunteer roles in both hospice and Stephen Ministries. She was a lifelong golf enthusiast.
Bobbie is survived by her loving husband of almost 58 years, Richard K. Gage; her two sons, Richard K. Gage Jr. of Carrboro, and Robert Van Geyt Gage of Asheville; her daughter, Elizabeth (Betsy) Gage Pea of Chapel Hill; her son-in-law Barry G. Pea and daughter-in-law Diane D. Gage. In addition, she has five grandchildren, Elizabeth Pea Wanee, Rachel Virginia Pea, Nathaniel Barrett Pea, Rebekah Grace Pea and Robert MacAlexander Gage.
A celebration of her life was held Thursday at Triangle Presbyterian Church, with Pastor L. Raymond Cobb, II officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Triangle Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 5001 Tudor Place, Durham, NC 27713.

Iva May Lord Gallop, 89, of Scotia Village in Laurinburg died Feb. 22.
A memorial service was held Feb. 25 at Scotia Village officiated by the Rev. Linda Nelson. The private family graveside service was held Thursday at the Raleigh National Cemetery in Raleigh.
Gallop was born Jan. 24, 1920, in Cleveland, Ohio, daughter of the late John Henry Lord and Lenetta Todd Lord. She was the devoted wife of the late Lt. Commander Parron Graham Gallop. She earned her degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. She was a retired teacher serving the educational system with many years of dedicated service. She was a beautiful and loving mother, grandmother and sister.
She is survived by her son, Roger Gallop and wife Katharine of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; daughter, Gwen Hinson and husband John of Chapel Hill; sisters, Marjorie Douglas of Jacksonville, Fla., and Carol Lord Smoyer of Vero Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Watts A. Scott
Watts A. "Scotty" Scott, 92, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Chapel Hill, died Feb. 13.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Margaret "Peggy," daughter Beverly and son-in-law Paul (Nancy) Williams.
A member of the 1938 commissioning crew of the USS Enterprise, CV6, based in Honolulu, Hawaii, he was aboard the ship on Dec. 7, 1941, when Pearl Harbor was attacked. He retired a chief petty officer, boiler technician. After returning to North Carolina with wife and children, he graduated from the UNC School of Business and went on to pursue a 27-year, second career, as a claims auditor for Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
He is survived by his children James M. "Jim" Scott of Kennesaw, Ga., and daughter Nancy S. Williams, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and daughter-in-law Fran Scott, St. Petersburg, Fla.
A full military honors and memorial service will be held March 9 at 2:15 p.m. at Bay Pines National Cemetery, Bay Pines, Fla.

Clayton Pearliman Marshall
Clayton Pearliman Marshall, 91, formerly of Marshall Road, Pittsboro, died Feb. 24 at Blue Ridge Health Care Center in Raleigh.
Mr. Marshall was born in Chatham County on Dec. 7, 1917, the son of H.M. and May Lutterloh Marshall. He was employed at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock, where he retired as a welding supervisor. Mr. Marshall was a longtime, faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Survivors include his son, Doug Marshall of Raleigh; daughter, Diane Turner of Raleigh; brother, John Marshall of Pittsboro; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Marshall was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carlene Curl Marshall, a daughter, Denise, and a brother, Wallace.
The service to celebrate Mr. Marshall's life was held Friday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, with the Rev. Shelby Stephens presiding. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Dorothy P. Alden
Dorothy P. Alden died Feb. 11, 2009, at the age of 94.
Dorothy was a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music where she met her husband, Edgar H. Alden. The Aldens moved to North Carolina in the late 1930s and for over 60 years contributed to the music community. For many years, Dorothy was violist in the North Carolina String Quartet and performed in various other orchestral and chamber music ensembles. She was also a devoted music educator. She organized and conducted the Young People's Orchestra in Chapel Hill.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by two daughters, Dr. Meredith Alden (Kevin Murphy) of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Priscilla Alden of Mebane, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Madeline Lancaster of San Diego, Calif., Mason Murphy of Northfield, Minn., and Daniel Murphy, Salt Lake City.
A family service to remember Dorothy's life will be held this spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund, Department of Music, Campus Box 3320, UNC at Chapel Hill, NC 27599-3320.
Blanche Clanton Joines
Blanche Clanton Joines, 86, of Chapel Hill died Monday at UNC Hospitals.
She was born in Iredell County to John Andrew and Carrie Gentle Clanton, and was widow of John Elree ("Fraley") Joines of Moravian Falls. She was a member of Orange United Methodist Church.
Surviving her are two daughters, Carol J. Ludwig and husband Ross of Hillsborough, and Joyce J. Newman of Fountain, N.C.; a son, Jerry D. Joines and wife Carolyn of Graham; and a granddaughter, Rachel Sivalia of Hillsborough.
Funeral services were conducted at Orange United Methodist Church on Thursday by the Rev. D. Ray Warren, Jr. Graveside services were held at the Joines Family Cemetery in Brocktown, Wilkes County.
