Anne Marie Larkin McJilton
Anne Marie Larkin McJilton died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on June 30, after a 2 1/2-year battle with lung cancer.
Feisty and fun, with a contagious joy of life, Anne lived life to the fullest each day.
Anne was born in Manhattan, N.Y., on Feb. 22, 1943, to the late Joseph and Margaret (Ryan) Larkin.
Anne married Roy McJilton in 1972. They lived in Franklin, Pa., for 12 years, and in 1984 they and their three children moved to Lumberton, N.C. Anne returned to school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to get her master's degree in social work. Anne worked as a social worker and therapist and served on several state boards.
In 2000, Anne and Roy moved to Chapel Hill. Anne was a dedicated fan of the UNC Tar Heels. She and Roy shared a love of laughter, books, travel, movies and the theater. Anne loved spending time with her children and their families. She was particularly proud of her grandchildren and cherished the time she spent with them.
Anne is survived by her husband, Roy A. McJilton; their three children and five grandchildren: Mike Suvick and wife Kristen of Pittsburgh, Pa., and children Graham, Kendyl and Paige; Brian Suvick and wife Laura of Hillsborough, and child, Hana; and Meagan Holcomb and husband Chris of Grennville; a sister, Kathy Archambault and husband Tom of Chester, Conn.; a nephew, Taylor Archambault and wife Nicole of Hartford, Conn.; and Anne and Roy's beloved furry child, Daisy.
She also leaves behind her an extended family and a group of adoring friends.
The family wishes to thank the UNC Oncology Department and UNC Hospice for the loving care given to Anne.
The family will host a visitation at Walker's Funeral Home in Chapel Hill from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 6. A memorial service will be planned at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anne's name to the Gravely Cancer Hosptial at UNC for lung cancer research.
Ann Marie Doxey Turner
Ann Marie Doxey Turner, 69, of Chapel Hill, passed away Sunday, June 28, at Duke Hospice in Durham.
Ann was native of Durham, daughter of Gretha Oakley Doxey and J. Elwood Doxey. She attended E. K. Powe School and Durham High School, where she was a member of the band, a varsity cheerleader and a majorette; she was co-editor of the yearbook and member of the National Honor Society. Ann attended UNC and graduated from the UNC School of Nursing in 1962.
Ann was a sustaining member of the Chapel Hill Service League and had been a volunteer at UNC Hospitals. She was a member of the Durham High School 50th Reunion Committee.
Ann enjoyed many activities including book club, bridge clubs and travel. She frequently lunched with friends from her Durham school days and with longtime Chapel Hill friends. Throughout her life, Ann was an avid reader.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Frances Doxey Warner.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Harry Sutton Turner (Sonny); three sons, Harry Sutton Turner Jr. of Santiago, Chile, Lance Worth Turner and Jon Richard Turner, both of Chapel Hill; and several nieces.
Memorial services will be held at Binkley Baptist Church in Chapel Hill at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, with a reception to follow.
