Michael J. Keel

Michael J. Keel, age 57, left a void that can never be filled with his untimely passing on June 24. A faithful 29-year member of the Church of the Ascension, his spiritual faith fueled his strength. He became one of the foremost authorities for the Philips Electronics brand in North America. He played an instrumental role in the naming of Philips Arena in Atlanta, and served as the North American regional voice on the global Philips advertising council. Mike's most prized possessions were his wife, Beth, and the shining light in his life, his daughter Katie, a scholarship swimmer at the University of North Carolina. He was a loyal son, devoted husband, and nurturing parent.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles (Chuck) and Betty Keel.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Beth; and daughter Katie, of Knoxville; and siblings, Ron and Vicki Keel, Cheri and Ed Reardon, and Steve and Nancy Keel, all from the Kansas City area.

A memorial service was held June 27 at the Church of the Ascension with The Rev. Father Howard J. Hess officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent to University of North Carolina Swimming & Diving Team, P.O. Box 2126, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-2126, "in memory of Mike Keel."
