Andrew Michael Kozel, 54, of Hillsborough, died unexpectedly Friday, Oct. 16, 2009 at his home. Born in San Diego, Calif., Andy relocated with his family to Chapel Hill in 1967. He was the son of the late Walter and Helen Kozel.

Andy graduated from Chapel Hill High School and East Carolina University, and for the past 20 years was employed by North Carolina Memorial Hospital.

Andy is survived by his wife of 30 years, Carol Perkins Kozel; three sons, Andrew Jr., Scott, and Matthew; one daughter, Samantha; his dog, Haleigh; a brother, Mark Kozel; and sisters, Cheryl Kozel, Joan Van Ord, Patty Ropp, and Stephanie Grubbs of Chapel Hill.

The family received friends on Monday, Oct. 19. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 20. A celebration of Andy's life followed at Union Grove United Methodist Church.
