Armin "Red" Altemueller of Chapel Hill died March 31. He was 82.

He was born in Washington, Mo., and served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He received a bachelor's degree from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1946 and returned to UNC in 1967 to work in the finance office of the Physical Plant until his retirement in 1987. He was a member on the Orange County Planning Board, Chapel Hill Jaycees and the Chapel Hill Library Board.

Services will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Thursday. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Walker's Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Jewell Hogan Altemueller of Chapel Hill; a son, Alan W. Altemueller of Wilmington; a daughter, Anna A. Terry of Chapel Hill; two brothers, Phil Altemueller of Elkin and Leon Altemueller of Union, Mo.; and two grandchildren.
