Robert Leonard Roberts of Pittsboro died April 12 at his home. He was 86.

He was born in Harlan County, Ky., and moved to Pittsboro with his family when he was a child. He served in the U.S. Army in Africa, Italy and France during World War II. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of Pittsboro Baptist Church, Columbus Lodge 102 AF & AM, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

A celebration of his life will be conducted April 16 at 11 a.m. at Pittsboro Baptist Church by the Rev. Tripp Harmon. Interment with masonic graveside rites will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Roberts-Knorr of Pittsboro; a son, Randy Roberts of Atlanta; a brother, Dave W. Roberts of Pittsboro; a half-brother, Jim D. Haynes of Pittsboro; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
