Elizabeth Inches Chamberlin of Chapel Hill passed away recently at Carolina Meadows. She was 86.

She was born in Boston and graduated from Sarah Lawrence College. She married Harrie Rogers Chamberlin in 1947 and they relocated to Chapel Hill in 1953 when he was recruited to join the fledging pediatric department at UNC.

Her volunteer contributions included World View, Friends of the Chapel Hill Library, The Ackland Museum, the League of Women Voters and the Junior League, with which she helped manage its Country Store. She served on the board of the Calvert Method School as it transitioned into the present day Durham Academy. She was a founding member of the Chapel Hill Tennis Club.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, April 19, at 11 a.m. in the lecture hall at Carolina Meadows.

Survivors include four children, Ayer and Sally Chamberlin of Richmond, Va., daughter Andy Chamberlin of San Leandro, Calif., and Bob Chamberlin of Hillsborough; and three grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the N.C. Botanical Garden or the Chocorua Lake Conservation Foundation, P.O. Box 265, Chocorua, N.H. 03817.
