Margaret Jean McCollum Watson of Raleigh and formerly of Chapel Hill died April 17 at her home.

She was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated from Radcliffe College in Cambridge, Mass. She worked for GE and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History before she married Jack E. Watson. They raised their family in Bergen County, New Jersey, where Jean was active in many organizations and held the presidency of the Oradell Book & Needle Women's Club. In 1987, she moved to Chapel Hill, where she lived for 18 years.

A memorial service will be conducted Friday, April 25, at 1 p.m. at St. Michael's Episcopal Church. A reception at the church will follow.

Survivors include three children, Margaret Stradling, Derek Watson and Wendy Strong, and six grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wake County Hospice (http://www.hospiceofwake.org) or to Wake County SPCA (ww.spcawake.org).

Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas. Online condolences may be posted at www.creminfo.com.
