Albert Frederick Lilley III of Chapel Hill died in his home on April 17. He was 75.He was born in Harrisburg, Pa., and received a bachelor's degree in 1954 from Bowdoin College. He was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army with the 4th Armored Division. In 1959 he received a law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was articles editor of the Virginia Law Review. He joined the law firm of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley and McCloy in New York City, where he spent his entire career. He was an Alumni Fund chairman, Alumni Council president and a Board of Overseers member for Bowdoin. He established the Lilley Family Fund in 1993 to enhance the academic program by supporting the scholarly research of faculty members. For Virginia Law School he served on the Alumni Council and as the Alumni Fund class manager. Health care was another deep interest. He retired to Chapel Hill in 1997, where he continued his community service as president of the Chapel Hill Rotary, president of the board of trustees of The ArtsCenter, and as a board member of the West Triangle United Nations Association. A celebration of his life will be held May 3 at 1 p.m. at the Carolina Club.
