I am senior at Middle College High School. However, my journey through high school began long before my senior year at Middle College. I started my high school career at Orange High School in Hillsborough, where as much as I really liked all of the teachers and thoroughly enjoyed the many activities and clubs at the school, the social environment wasn't for me. I spent three very long years at Orange High before I finally came to the realization that I needed something different.A friend of the family told me about Middle College High School. Until then I had never heard of a high school that allows you to be on a community college's campus full-time and at the same time allows you to get your high school diploma. At first this program seemed almost too good to be true. This high school, Middle College, gives students the opportunity to get away from the traditional high school and gives you the freedom to get a head start on college credits. Since I did not come to Middle College High School until I was a senior, I already had all but three of my high school credits finished. Of the high school credits I still needed to graduate, one was a math class, one was an English class and the third was any elective of my choice. I placed into a college math class and took English 4 as a high school class. This left me with two more college classes of my choice so I chose to take a Folk Dancing class and an Architectural Drafting class, both of which were lots of fun. This semester with all of my high school classes completed I was free to take any of the community college classes that I had the pre-requisites for. So I decided to take Expository Writing, Introduction to Business and Western Civilizations. So far I am really enjoying all of them.At Middle College High School, the staff treats you more like adults than children and really gives you the opportunity to express yourself and the chance to mature and to get to know all of the teachers and students, which is a really neat benefit that allows new students to make friends quickly because you just know everyone.
