Yes, Orange County residents, who live in the ETJ and enjoy Chapel Hill’s parks, library and community bus system contribute funding for these services by paying Orange County property taxes. Those of us living in Chapel Hill pay the same Orange County property tax as those who live in the EJT – as well as a Chapel Hill property tax.

Commentary: Heading to work Monday morning to face 30 10- and 11-year-olds at Rashkis Elementary, I knew they would have questions and need an outlet of response. Before the shootings, I had planned for my students to write Peaceful Poems of their own, after sharing and reflecting on poems from the book Peaceful Pieces given to me by one of my students. Little did I know how appropriate the assignment would align in helping my students deal with the emotions they were sorting through.

My husband and I drove from Raleigh to watch our 11-year-old granddaughter play basketball on Saturday, Dec. 15, at Rashkis Elementary School. The opposing team had not yet received their jerseys to wear in the game. The assigned referees refused to officiate because of this.
