In last Sunday’s paper (Oct. 21), I saw two disturbing letters. One was anti-capitalist and the other was anti-Israel. Both are positions taken by radical leftists, and are in direct – even violent – opposition to America’s true values. Published: Oct. 27, 2012 7:00 PM | Full story

I have a confession to make, I am a former smoker. I started in college, under the stress of academics and because I was in the presence of secondhand smoke that beckoned me every day. Your letters Oct. 21

As someone who lives in north Orange County and frequently commutes to Chapel Hill, Durham and Raleigh, I can personally attest to the increase in traffic on rural roads as well as our interstates. Published: Oct. 20, 2012 7:00 PM | Full story

Mark Zimmerman’s concern for the environment, economic diversity, and economic sustainability would be laudable, if, in fact, it was true. Published: Oct. 20, 2012 7:00 PM | Full story

I want to thank the Chapel Hill News for its balanced editorial on Johnny’s in Carrboro. I have lived very near Johnny’s for the last five years and think it’s fairly clear that the vast majority of the neighborhood supports some accommodation. Published: Oct. 9, 2012 7:00 PM | Full story

Your letters Oct. 10

Some 70 years ago, 15 million of us Americans donned uniforms and destroyed a dictator whose power had originally been based on the defamation and destruction of Jews. How, then, am I to understand why today’s press often mimic Hitler’s propaganda machine, by frequently ignoring attacks on Israeli civilians, and then emphasizing Israel’s attempts to stop these terrorist travesties? Your letters Oct. 7

I have just finished reading today’s paper and want to take moment to thank the Chapel Hill News for having the insight and sensitivity to invite Viv Taylor to write for My View (CHN, Sept. 26). Johnny’s current zoning is for a retail establishment, which was grandfathered into our 100 percent residential neighborhood. The land use ordinance (LUO) prohibits any change that may negatively impact neighbors. As such, music events and gatherings are a violation of their current zoning. I read with interest your recent article about last week’s Town Council meeting on Obey Creek. I was pleased with the article’s objectivity, with one exception: the way it treated the expected traffic impact from this project. Published: Sep. 29, 2012 7:00 PM | Full story

So, retired UNC professor Leuchtenburg chooses to attack the messenger (CHN, Sept. 23, bit.ly/UuVfsI) that for years has been practicing Pulitzer Prize-level journalism by exposing corruption in North Carolina governance. Your letters: Johnny’s

I did not attend the wine tasting mentioned in the complaint, but I happened upon it when I went over to Johnny’s to buy some milk. There were a few cars parked out front, but all was quiet on the outside. Inside was a small but vibrant, happy gathering of people. I cannot imagine what harm this event could have possibly caused the community. Published: Sep. 25, 2012 7:00 PM | Full story
