Proposed building a '70s throwback
UNC owns an important piece of property that is to become the new campus for the 21st century. Townspeople have been waiting to see what inventive and imaginative buildings will go there and Friday we got to see the artists' rendering of the first building. (See story page A3).
Unfortunately, it looks like not much inventing is going to go on in that depressing looking building! It looks like an institutional office building from the '70s that should be torn down. Why is the university not turning to a prominent international architect to establish a foot print for the future? --

N.C. 54 buildings are town eyesores
Highway 54 has always been a pretty approach to and exit from Chapel Hill. Now two four-story office buildings are going up where the University Inn used to be.
While the motel was far back from the road and blended in with the landscape, the two office buildings are an eyesore. Once of them is right next to 54.
Will the development that threatens Glen Lennox have the same results?--
Christoph E. Schweitzer, Chapel Hill
