The Edge at CHHS

CHHS head coach Paul Kieckbusch has opened registration for his summer basketball camp: The Edge. Daily sessions will run 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., July 21-25, at Chapel Hill High School.

The camp is open to all students rising this summer to grades 3-9 at any school. The cost is $180 per camper. A concession stand will be open at breaks for snacks and drinks, but campers can bring their own lunch or have the option to buy pizza on-site.

Hoops at East

The 13th annual "Hoops at East" Summer Basketball Academy has announced dates for this summers' sessions. There are two sessions again this summer. The first session is - July 7-11, and the second session follows July 21-25. Hoops at East -- is a full day camp. Camp hours are 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

"Hoops at East" is a basketball camp open to rising third graders through rising ninth graders. The camps are held annually at East Chapel Hill High School.

CHHS soccer

Registration has begun for both sessions of the annual CHHS Soccer Summer camp at Chapel Hill High School. Both co-ed camps run weekdays 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Session No. 1, July 21-25, is for grades 3-12, with campers divided into appropriate skill groups, and offers instruction on individual tactics and ball skills; it costs $100.

Session No. 2, July 28-Aug. 1, at $65, is for grades 7-12, and offers more physical training aimed at those wishing to get in shape for their school or select teams. Campers can expect light weight training, running of the mile for time and intense, small-sided and full-field games. A pre-season physical is recommended.

Both sessions will be held at the CHHS fields and gyms. Campers should bring soccer cleats, running shoes, water bottle, sun screen, shin guards and a mid-morning snack.

Camp Director Ron Benson is the head coach of the CHHS boys and girls soccer teams. He has coached soccer for more than 30 years, was named U.S. Southeastern Regional Coach of the Year in 2000, N.C. Men's Coach of the Year in 2000 and NC Women's Coach of the Year in 1995. Recent awards include PAC-6 coach of 2006 for both men and women. He also teaches math at CHHS.

4-C Camp at Smith

Registration has opened for the 19th annual 4-C Basketball Camp July 7-11 at Smith Middle School. Designed for rising fifth- through seventh-graders, the camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon each day.
